HIVE (Hub for Immersive and Virtual Experiences) is a space for the UniSQ community to explore the opportunities afforded by innovative, digital technologies.

Recent technological advancements have begun to amalgamate real and virtual experiences. These innovations have opened doors to affordable virtual reality systems, easy (and accurate) 3D scanning devices, and most mobile phones now support Augmented Reality! But these unprecedented opportunities bring with them the daunting task of learning digital literacy skills, scoping out potential uses and trialing innovative ideas; a particularly difficult path to navigate.

That’s where the HIVE comes in.

About Us

Our mission at UniSQ’s HIVE is to create a place, both physical and virtual, for educators, researchers, and students to collaborate, create, and explore new experiences. It aims to provide access to resources and knowledge that can elevate the collective digital literacy of the UniSQ community and foster a culture of innovation and exploration. While there is a physical space that provides access to specialised equipment, most activities and resources acknowledge how to tackle novel activities at home with your existing devices (i.e. personal computer or smart phone).

On top of the constant preparation of resources, we’re also committed to providing a helping hand to UniSQ educators to enhance their learning and teaching content through one-on-one consultations and our Bootcamp Projects initiative. So far we have helped inject 3D models and 360 into upcoming courses, and look forward to helping other educators explore immersive technologies and create truly memorable experiences for their students. Any interested educator is encouraged to reach out using the contact information below to begin discussing your innovative plans.

Through the process of exploring our provided resources and activities, we aim to allow UniSQ community members to:

– Build capability and digital literacy regarding immersive technologies
– Evaluate the potentialities of novel experiences for student learning, engagement and pedagogical affordances
– Develop opportunities for researchers, educators, and students to forge new paths for the future across all disciplines
